Past Tense 200-Hour Teacher Training

Stay Tuned for 2025 Dates

The Past Tense 200-Hr Teacher Training, led by Amy Rizzotto (ERYT-500) and Ellie Conrad (ERYT-400 and LMT) will guide participants to find their unique voice as a Yoga instructor while cultivating a deeply thoughtful relationship with Yoga in its many forms. Together, and with the support of the Past Tense teacher training team, we will explore anatomy through the lens of asana, functional movement and mobility, pranayama and the bandhas, meditation, and Yoga philosophy in relation to social justice.

 FAQs

  • History + Philosophy. Gain a deeper understanding of the history of Yoga and Yoga philosophy incorporating historical and contemporary Yogic texts into the curriculum for a deeper understanding of our modern connection to an ancient practice.

The Art of Teaching Yoga. Discover the “building blocks” and then learn to dismantle the rules for sequencing a creative, intelligent Yoga class. This program will dive deeply into the study of anatomy and biomechanics as well as functional movement practices and mobility theories to explore the asana practice. Additionally, we will take a look at the subtle practices of Yoga including, but not limited to, pranayama, meditation, and the bandhas.

The Role of the Teacher. Throughout the course of this program, participants will be asked to hold space for themselves and their peers. We uncover and unpack ethical considerations for Yoga teachers, public speaking as a way to clearly and effectively engage with students, and common business practices for independent Yoga instructors in a live and virtual context.

Yoga for Liberation. This program aims to engage in conversation about the decolonization of Yoga as well as our relationship and commitment to social justice in today’s political and social landscape.

Please note: Much of this course will be hands-on and experiential with many hours right off the bat dedicated to practice teaching.
